ButterflyPH at BridalExpoPhilippines

Butterfly PH participated as Exhibitor of Bridal Expo Philippine's 8th year Special Edition. It was fun and exciting with full of challenges for us first timer for this kind of event. Even we have rough weather whole weekend, the exhibit goes well overall.

Thank you Bridal Expo Phils and all visitors, co-exhibitors and our new clients for the opportunities to serve and present butterflies as additional beautiful attraction for wedding events. We assure butterflies not only serve as beautiful attraction for people, memorable photos or exciting part of the event program but also the true meaning of releasing butterflies which symbolizes how beautiful life is being a couple, united by law and God and has responsibility too to spread the greatness, beauty and magic of life cycle.

For soon to be wed couples, advance congratulations to you, just make a wish to the butterfly and set it free, your wish may be granted by the Great Spirit.

"New Beginnings (For Butterfly Release)

’From the cycles of life come circles of love, and we give You our thanks for such gifts from Above. From Nature's own beauty come uplifting feelings, from the flight of these creatures may you find life's true meanings. And as these creations escape to the light may the promise of tomorrow always be bright. Let them carry your hopes for what the future may bring, and may your love be uplifted on these butterfly wings.’

"According to an American Indian Legend:"

If anyone desires a wish to come true they must first capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it.
Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all. In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom, the Great Spirit always grants the wish. So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted. The following line is often added when the Legend is read prior to releasing butterflies at a wedding:

“We have gathered to grant this couple all our best wishes and are about to set these butterflies free in trust that all these wishes will be granted.”

Here are few photos from the exhibit:

Reminders on Butterfly Release on Occasions

Here are the things to consider when releasing butterflies during occasions.

When the Butterfly Arrive:
The butterflies arrive at a Styrofoam box or large box with ice pack. This is to keep the butterflies in a calm state, as they are when they hibernate during the colder months of the year. At home you can put them on refrigerator but NOT in FREEZER, cover them with clothes of anything that will keep the release basket darker. They are safe to stay there for hours or a day.
* Do not store them in hot places, they are cold-blooded animal.

Readying your Butterfly on the day of Event:
Two or three hours before the time of the release you will need to remove the individual release boxes or envelopes from the storage box and away from the ice in order for them to begin to warm up and get ready to fly. Place the release boxes or envelopes in a sunny spot for about a half an hour if it is a cooler day. Remember that the butterflies won’t fly at all if the temperature outside is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is very warm outside, place the release boxes in a shady area for the two or three hours. A sunny, warm, flower-filled area or garden is the most ideal place. When release at afternoon, it should be at least 1 hour before the sunset, to give them time to look for food and shelter before it gets dark. Do not capture or kill them.
Once the butterflies are released, they will fly to nearby flowers and plants. During the release there will be many opportunities for wedding pictures of the bride and groom with the butterflies as well as the guests. Be sure the photographer and guests have their cameras ready!
A butterfly first flight is usually very short, and they will instinctively fly toward the brightest object. Usually, much to the delight of wedding guests, people wearing bright colors, or towards flowers and bouquets.

Quotes When Releasing Butterflies on Events:
Love is like a butterfly,
it settles upon you when you least expect it.

Butterfly Irish Release Blessing:

May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun And find your shoulder to light on, To bring you luck, happiness and riches Today, tomorrow and beyond.

One of the most popular sayings to incorporate into your release is the American Indian Legend about the butterfly. Below is a suggestion of how to use this legend during your wedding butterfly release:

If anyone desires a wish to come true they must first capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it.
Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all.

In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom, the Great Spirit always grants the wish.

So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted.

We have all gathered to grant this couple all our best wishes and are about to set these butterflies free in trust that all these wishes will be granted.

When it comes to releasing butterflies on your wedding day, you want to make sure that it is special and that you are letting your new husband/wife know exactly what you are feeling. If you have written your own vows, incorporating butterflies and everything that they stand for into your vows is a great way to tie the butterflies being released into your ceremony.

Facts on Butterfly Survival

Caterpillars are cold-blooded, and need warmth to induce feeding activity. Thus in a cool spring they take longer to develop, so more get eaten by birds, and more get attacked by parasitoids. In the case of nocturnal larvae the reverse is the case - cloudy weather stops night time temperatures from dropping, and increases the caterpillar's growth rate. So in poor weather they develop quicker and less get attacked by parasitoids.

Vertebrate predators possess varying degrees of intelligence and quickly learn how to overcome the huge variety of defense mechanisms employed by their prey. In many cases it is known that birds can pass on their learnt behavior to their offspring, so their ability to locate and consume butterflies and their larvae increases with each passing generation.

Luckily butterflies have a couple of advantages over birds. Firstly, a high percentage of species are polyvoltine ( producing several generations per year ). This rapid rate of reproduction enables them to recover their numbers quickly even after major losses of population. Secondly, butterflies and moths intrinsically produce high genetic diversity. These 2 factors result in an ability to evolve rapidly, the consequence being that the battle between birds and butterflies has become a closely run race - the birds catch enough caterpillars and butterflies to feed themselves and their offspring, but at the same time enough butterflies survive to ensure that both predator and prey can continue to co-exist. This is the so-called "balance of nature" - a long term evolutionary battle for survival between predator ( or parasitoid ) and prey.

But with great effect of climate change, butterfly and other flying animal survival get even smaller.

In the wild, butterflies may expect to enjoy a 2 percent survival rate between ova and adult. The 98% that perish along the way may be devoured by prey, succumb to virus or diseases or not be able subsist if the climatic conditions (drought, wind, temperatures changes, fires) are not right.

A successful butterfly culture/farming can increase the survival rate of these delicate, spectacular creatures from 2% to as high as 90 percent.
